If I Blogged…
Well, a few years ago I thought I’d catch up to the 21st century and start a blog. It got out of control. Quickly out of control. Before I knew what I had done, there were 6 blogs all loosely connected to the original blogspot I had created. As one friend put it, a “virtual blogdom.”
It didn’t take long to figure out that maintaining a blog is sort of like having a plant or a pet. Suddenly, owning 6 brand-spanking-new blogs was just way too overwhelming for me.
I did what I could by updating pictures of friends and articles I had written for our mission’s journal. I’d sometimes post something to provoke the people. I even did a pretty good job at posting my itinerary and what I had been reading, but maintaining 6 blogs caught up to me.
I gave up.
Recently, Benjamin Gott came to town. I love his blog—it’s snappy and simple. He showed me a few of the blogs he enjoys reading. We poked around the Old Market while he was here and we found a little store, Trocadero where he bought me my first ‘Smorkin’ Labbit’ (more on that in a post to come) and Jara Sturdivant later told me of the blog kept by that shopkeeper—it’s an underappreciated treasure that celebrates the quirks of Omaha. Many of the amazing people I work with also keep blogs—some are absolutely splendid in every way.
I got the bug. Then I got ambitious. How many visitors would I have? How many comments would people leave? How much pressure would there be to keep coming up with something that wouldn’t be a complete waste of a reader’s time?
Then I gave up. Again. Even before starting my second attempt at blogging.
So, If I Blogged, it would look something like this…
