I Didn’t Want to Say Anything :: RIP Ngày Chiến Sĩ Trận Vo

Early this month when Phileena and I were on vacation we got some bad news.

Our wee little fish, Ngày Chiến Sĩ Trận Vo (It means Memorial Day in Vietnamese, because: 1) we adopted him on Memorial Day, 2) not all the soldiers killed fighting for America were Americans) had passed away. I believe the actually day of release was December 2, 2009.

He was good little guy and we had so much fun naming him.

He was our 9th beloved fish and lived with us for a stunning 191 days. That may not seem like a lot to you, but for us that’s pretty damn solid.

So, promptly on December 5 I took my niece Jayna Rai out to get our newest (10th) fish. I was going to let Jayna name him, but she was fixated on 1964 classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer holiday show and wanted to name the new fish Hermey. You know, Hermey, the elf who doesn’t make toys and wants to be a dentist.

First, I do LOVE elves, but not so much a fan of dentists.

Since December 5 was the Big XII Championship game day I decided to name the new fish Ndamukong Suh after the monster-of-a-human-being-who-should-have-won-the-game-and-the-Heisman-Trophy.

So, there you have it. RIP Ngày Chiến Sĩ Trận Vo and welcome to the family Ndamukong Suh.

PS, try to live more than 191 days please.
