BUSTED! At Least 61% “White”

A good friend of mine showed me the blog (when it was not even a month old) called “Stuff White People Like.”

The first time I looked at it there were just over 300,000 views. Tonight, that has grown to an astounding 28, 461,095. Seriously.

At first I just couldn’t stop reading it. It’s snappy and the writing pops right off the screen. It’s hard to tell if it’s funny or sad. It’s also hard to tell how to navigate generalizations about race, culture, and class.

And I realize it’s been a bit controversial

Today, “Stuff White People Like.” posted item #100. So in celebration of 100 posts, I’m confessing to being 61% guilty of identifying with the posts already published.

Dang.

I sometimes wonder if utilizing humor to diffuse some of the tensions among race, culture, and class helps or hurts. So I’m still wondering what to think about this blog and would love to get your thoughts.

Are these just funny (true and/or false) statements about race, culture, and class in America OR is it shameless racist material that perpetuates old problems and hurtful generalizations?

When I posted this on my facebook a couple months ago my non-white friends privately messaged me with their thoughts, while many of my white friends posted their thoughts on my wall… wonder what that says about us???

BTW, some of the better posts include:
