My New Favorite :: Inukshuk
First off, I just love the word. And, I’ve found myself saying it—for no other reason than it’s just sounds great.
Second, this past week while in Canada I stopped by Mark Petersen’s office (blog more, we miss it) and saw a representation of an Inukshuk on his bookshelf. Something about it captured my attention, tucked itself in my imagination and hasn’t let me go.
Finally, the night before leaving Toronto, I found myself sitting with Mark’s family around his kitchen table. The conversation was rich and thoughtful. Toward the end of the evening (actually, into the morning) Mark gave me the gift of a small glass Inukshuk. It’s beautiful. Loaded with meaning. A little wooden tag hanging off it reads,
“Inukshuk: Stone figures built to resemble humans. Originally built as landmarks to aid in navigation. Today they remind us of our dependence on each other and the value of strong relationships.”
Now it sits on my desk, right beside the “Sounding Stones” that inspired the content for my book.
Thanks Mark, and thanks to each of you who have been a guide, a friend and a source of direction in my life.
