25 Random Things :: The Facebook Experiment
Sooooooooo, my “need to be against” caused me to hold off on doing this as long as the people would allow, I caved.
Here it goes:
- Among my many ‘quirks,’ I have a hard time sitting with my back exposed to a door or wall of windows, so usually when I can, I sit in the seat with the widest possible range of view.
- I don’t have internet at home, so we try to catch a signal from the Mutual of Omaha wireless blanket down North 33rd Street or an unsuspecting neighbor’s unsecured internet access. It’s patchy at best, and pretty frustrating most of the time.
- I have 6 hand-signed Shepard Fairey poster prints: MLK, Angela (Rough), Malcolm X (Red), Arab Woman (Gold), Panther Power and my newest, Rose Girl. And they are all beautiful.
- When someone doesn’t put their real name on their comments on my blog, I will hardly read, let alone respond to them. I think it’s pretty lame to say something that you don’t have to be accountable to.
- I’m a fierce 8 on the enneagram, an ENTJ and my StrengthsFinder top 5 are Command, Strategic, Significance, Activator and Achiever. Mostly I feel like I should apologize for all of those test results, but I’m coming around and getting more comfortable with myself.
- Among other recognizable personalities, I’ve bumped into Tommy Lee, Pamela Anderson, Ice T and Madeline Albright in various airports but didn’t bother to try and talk with any of them.
- I have 2 packed-full shelves of signed books by some of the all time greats including, Salman Rushdie, Jon Sobrino, Gustavo Gutierrez, Jurgen Moltmann, and about a hundred others.
- Kenley Wilson got Phileena and me the hook-up by scoring invites to the National Civil Right’s Museum’s presentation of their International Freedom Award to Bono. We also got into the VIP reception and met him there. Thanks Kenley.
- I really did ask for ’Maid in Manhattan’ on DVD for Christmas one year (and it was sort of recently. that’s all I’m saying).
- Some of the best songs ever have to include A-ha’s Take On Me, Biz Markie’s Just a Friend and Stir it Up by Bob Marley
- Words I hate include ”moist”—and I was about to list a few others, but after writing “moist” I made myself stop. I still feel weird about writing that…
- Even though I lived in the same house, for 1-12 grades I went to 7 different public, Catholic and Protestant schools.
- I used to be a child-fascist, uniform and all—i mean a cub scout.
- “Man work” and tools are pretty hard for me to figure out. Phileena, however has some pretty hardcore mad skills when it comes to fixing things. So one year I got her a DeWalt power drill for her birthday, a set of Craftsman screw drivers for Christmas and a few random tools for Valentine’s day-and she LOVED them all.
- To date I’ve seen every episode of Arrested Development (bring it back), The Office and Lost.
- I don’t like scary movies and won’t watch them.
- I played lots sports in high school (set a career batting average record for Country Club Little League and lettered 3 years varsity, was captain my senior year and Honorable Mention All-Nebraska in football) but I wouldn’t exactly call myself a sports fan, but I do love college football and seasonally track college basketball and baseball at the end of their seasons. I’m not really a pro-sports fan, there is something about the purity of the college game that seems compromised in pro-sports. But since a child (all decisions made for me or made by me before 3rd grade) I’ve cheered for the Boston Celtics, New York Yankees, New York Mets and Detroit Lions (I’m serious about the Lions)
- I love my friends so damn much.
- I don’t usually tell people this, but I’m an ordained minister and have been the celebrant or co-celebrant for 15 weddings and will do at least 2 or 3 more this year and have done about 10 baptisms.
- I got Godfathered 9 times. Every single one of my Godchildren are absolutely ADORABLE and I’d do anything for them. I might even cut my thumbs off for them (but I don’t want to if I don’t have to).
- To date I have 5 tattoos but hope to get some more.
- Sometimes I’m obsessive about stats, and know that since 1997 I’ve completed 794 books worth 163,575 pages.
- I’m still bummed that I drank waaaay too much at my birthday party last year. The people seemed to love it, but I was sad, still am. Sorry if you were there, even if you thought it was funny, I’m sorry.
- I have been told that one of my distant relatives was the last person hung in Ireland as a horse thief and that another used to be a mortician who night lighted as bootlegging moon shiner (hid the booze in the coffins)
- For a real long time I used to have a crush on Tootie from ‘The Facts of Life’
