Presidents Book Club
Hugo Chavez, the leader of Venezuela, gave President Barack Obama a copy of Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent by Eduardo Galeano.
It’s a great book. Really great. And I can say that because I actually read it, unlike most of the people on the news last night who are hating on it.
If you haven’t read it, you really should take the time to dig into this one. And if you’re a Fox News loving, conservative you probably won’t like this. But before you start breaking it down, critiquing and condemning it, I’d encourage you to at least read it.
And, while you’re at it, try to score a copy of How Europe Underdeveloped Africa by Walter Rodney—another great read, sadly this one was out of print for a while, but it’s back and worth slugging through.
I know, this is crazy… asking someone to actually read something to get their own opinion about it before spitting the Rush Limbaugh or Bill O’Reilly “talking points.”
